Franklin - Frances Schneider Marks, 93, died peacefully as she slept on January 5, 2018, in Asa's Neighborhood at The Village at Woods Edge. She was born November 2, 1924 in Boykins, VA, the only child of John S. "Skeeter" Schneider, Jr. and Bertie Allie Drewry Schneider.

She attended public schools in Boykins and Mary Washington College. At an early age, music became a very important part of her life. She was involved with church music in every place she ever lived. As a high school student, she often accompanied services at the Methodist church in Boykins. After marrying, she was organist and choir director at Capron Methodist Church for many years. She was an active part of the music program in Brandermill Church in Richmond while she lived there. After she moved to Franklin, she often accompanied the children's choir at High Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Frances considered the choir at High Street to be part of her extended family. She loved her God, her family and her church, and her faith was reflected in her remarkably gentle and kind spirit. Up to the very end of her life, music continued to bring a smile to her face. She would sing along with her daughter, Linda, and although many of her memories were long gone, the lyrics to songs never faded. The joy of music was a key ingredient in her life, and her love for it never dimmed.

Frances is survived by a large and loving family. She has six children who cherish every memory of her:

Paul Douglas Camp (Doug) Marks, Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Columbia, SC; Linda Marks Mosley of Franklin; John Robert Marks and his wife, Margaret, of Franklin; Nancy Marks Brewbaker and her husband, Robert, of Charlottesville; Jo Ann Marks Trethaway and her husband, Scott, of Pawleys Island, SC and Texie Camp Marks of Capron.

She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren, all of whom knew and loved her as "Chubs". In addition, Frances had an abundance of cousins and wonderful friends … some of whom were friends for her entire, long life. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her ex-husband, Paul Camp Marks.

The family extends its profound thanks to the caring staff of Asa's Neighborhood at The Village, who took extraordinary care of Frances. The staff's love for her was abundantly evident, and we will be forever indebted to them.

A celebration of Frances's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9 at High Street United Methodist Church in Franklin. A reception will follow at The Village at Woods Edge. A private committal of ashes will occur at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts may be made to High Street United Methodist Church, Asa's Neighborhood at The Village at Woods Edge, or a charity of your choice.
