Frances Blythe Holt's Obituary
Franklin - Frances B. Holt, 100, died October 13 at East Pavilion in Franklin. A lifelong resident of Franklin, she was the daughter of Clifton Clarence and Annie Betty Edwards Blythe. She was the widow of Emmett (Ben) Holt. Frances was a dedicated elementary school teacher and taught in Southampton County and the cities of Portsmouth and Franklin. It was always her joy working with children.
She was a lifelong supporter of the High Street United Methodist Church having been a member since 1924. She loved her church and served in many volunteer capacities.
Frances was a founding member of the Franklin Women's Club, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (retired teachers), the United Methodist Women, the Franklin-Southampton County Historical Society, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She enjoyed her home, and it was always a pleasure to have friends, her family, and other relatives visit her. Her home was open for many occasions. After her husband passed away in 1982 she helped in the Literacy Program for many years teaching adults to read.
Frances was predeceased by three brothers – Raymond, Earving, and Rev C.C. Blythe, Jr. She is survived by two sons – Robert (Bob) of Franklin and James (Jim) and wife Maria of Spain. Her six grandchildren include Tami, Chris, Jaime, Charley, Ben, and Gabriella Holt. She had 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nephews and a niece.
A funeral service and reception after will be held Thursday, October 16 at 2:00 PM at High Street United Methodist Church on Camp Parkway with the Rev. John Ashley officiating; a private burial will follow in the Poplar Spring Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 15 from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Frances B. Holt Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o High Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 218, Franklin, Va. 23851.
