Franklin – Frances Edwards Bowen, 73, died October 11, 2008. She was born in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Pearl Wray Edwards, and was predeceased by a son, Richard Smith Bowen, Jr. Mrs. Bowen was a graduate of Longwood College, taught for many years in the Franklin School System, and served on the school board. After her retirement, she worked at the James L. Camp, Jr. YMCA. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, its Faithful Workers Sunday School Class, and served as a deacon.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 49 years, Richard Smith Bowen, Sr.; two sons, Mark Alan Bowen of Mechanicsville, Troy Wray Bowen and wife, Susan, of Durham, NC; three grandchildren, Allyson, Kelli, and Noah Bowen; one sister, Anne Woodruff of Emporia; four brothers, Carlson Edwards and wife, Frances, of Gaston, NC, Dennis Edwards and Lathan Edwards, both of Gasburg, Va, and Stuart Edwards and wife, Sherry, of Powhatan; one brother-in-law, Marshall Bowen of Philadelphia, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 am at Franklin Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress and the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends today (Sunday) from 7 to 8: 30 pm at Wright Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.wrightfuneralhome.org
