Courtland – Evelyn Cobb Payne, 85, passed away August 3, 2020 in her home with her family by her side.  A native of Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late George Fenton Cobb and Ethel Harcum Cobb.  She was also predeceased by her first husband, Julian Russell Carr, and a son, Floyd Michael Carr.

Evelyn was a retired Assistant Registrar for the Franklin Health Department.  She was raised in Sycamore Baptist Church and was a member of Kingdom Life Ministries.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Charles A. L. Payne; her son George Thomas "Tom" Carr of Courtland; a stepdaughter, Sheryl P. Spencer (Michael) of Christiansburg; a stepson, John Payne (Cathy) of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

A private Graveside Service will be held in Southampton Memorial Park with Rev. Matt Kidd and Pastor Denise Wise officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 12:30 PM Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in Wright Funeral Home.
