Franklin – Sadie Estelle Edwards, 74, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in her home after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Isle of Wight County and was a daughter of the late Ernest Carpenter and Susie Duck Carpenter. She was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Betty Sue Edwards, and three brothers Joseph, Rueben, and Ernest Mills Carpenter. Estelle worked many years in retail.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years Cecil Ernest Edwards; two sons Cecil E. Edwards, Jr. and Ronnie Andrew Edwards; a daughter Susan Estelle Edwards Robertson (Jerry); two brothers Jonas Carpenter and Mack Carpenter (Connie); six grandchildren Kelly E. Donnell (Chaz), Chelsey E. Blakley (Quinton), Nikki Robertson, Ridge Edwards (Samantha), Jackson Edwards, and Josh Edwards; seven great-grandchildren Alexys, Abbygale, Quinton Jr., and Michaela Blakley, Spencyr and Aidyn Edwards, and Bryer Donnell; and best friend Betty Jean Butler.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Foreman officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Cecil Edwards, Jr., 23383 Hanging Tree Rd., Courtland. The family suggests memorial donations may be made in memory of Estelle to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. The family would like to thank Dr. Cynthia Sile and her staff at Virginia Oncology and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care.
