Obituary

Franklin - Emily Channell Garrett Lippe, 74, late wife of Sander Melvyn Lippe of Franklin, VA passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

Emily was born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 1, 1943 to the late John William Garrett, Jr. and Emily Whitley Channell Garrett previously of Carrollton, VA. She was raised in the Air Force life living in Alabama, Japan and Germany.

She married the love of her life, Sandy in 1960 and lived in New Jersey where they raised their family in Cedar Knolls. They retired to Virginia where they put down roots in Franklin. Emily was thrilled to return to the state she spent a large part of her youth. Many family gatherings and holidays were spent at the Channell Farm, Haymarket, and Morgarts Beach.

Emily was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 50 years , Daughters of the United Confederacy, and the Jamestown Society. She surrounded herself with a wonderful group of friends including her Mah Jongg girls and birthday club.

Emily was devoted to her dog Willie who was always by her side and gave her enormous joy. Her many obsessions included completing her family ancestry to get that link back to England, all things birds, and collecting antiques, especially sofas. She recently renewed her love of painting and enjoyed taking classes at the community college as well as attending a monthly concert series.

Emily is survived by her daughters Monica Ann Lippe of New Jersey and Helene Karin Lippe of Maryland, 3 grandsons Matthew Edward Weslosky, Christopher Dylan Weslosky, and Alec Sergei Lippe. She is also survived by her brother John William Garrett, III and his wife Cynthia of Glade Hill, VA, 5 nieces and 3 nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.

Friends may call Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home, 206 W. 4 th Avenue, Franklin, VA. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday December 23, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Lukes Memorial Park in Smithfield, VA.
