Franklin – Elsie Jenkins Lankford Bryant, 85, died May 20, 2010. She was born in Hertford County, NC, daughter of the late Paul H. Jenkins and Thelma Storey Jenkins and was predeceased by her two husbands, Ashley Davis Lankford and Joe Bynum Bryant and her brother, Paul Ronald Jenkins. Mrs. Bryant was a retired clerk with the city of Franklin and was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda L. Slaughter of Newport, NC; her son, Robert A. Lankford (Jeni) of Racine, WI; step-daughter, Barbara B. Merchant of The Plains, Va; six grandchildren, Amy Calhoun (Brent), Susan Weiler, Nicholas Lankford, Christopher Lankford, Mark Slaughter, and Angela Slaughter; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Reagan Calhoun, and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Monday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt and the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 North High Street, Franklin, Va. 23851, or a charity of choice.
