Franklin - Ellen Leigh Munford Harris, 83, passed away March 25, 2017 at Sentara Obici Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Southampton County and was predeceased by her parents, Carr Henry Munford and Texie Uzzell Munford, her infant brother, Matthew Wade Munford, and her husband of over 60 years, Richard E. Harris.

Ellen was a 1952 graduate of Windsor High School. She was a lover of all nature and wildlife, and all animals with a particular affinity for dogs. She was an avid reader, lover of art and an accomplished cook and seamstress.

She is survived by her beloved children, Richard Harris, Jr. (Becky), Carr Harris (Diane), Kathy Harris (Karen), and Matthew Harris (Julie).

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Bonnie Hammontree, and Samuel Harris, her sister, Delores Harris, special friend Kaye Wade, and many nephews and nieces and many other family members. The family would like to thank her dear friends and neighbors, Valjean & Raymond Bynum for their many kindnesses and acts of love.

Visitation will be at Wright Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 29 from 6 to 8 pm. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 30, at 1:00pm at St. Luke's Cemetery in Smithfield, Va. by the Reverend James Hyatt.
