Franklin – Ellen Kathleen Moore Ellis, 90, passed away January 14, 2026 in Sentara Obici Hospital.  Born August 29, 1935 in Virginia City and raised in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Dewitt T. Moore and Goldie Bell Mays Moore.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Harry McCoy Ellis; a daughter, Lou Ann Wright; a son, Michael Ward; a granddaughter, Hope Williams; and a special niece, Rosie Moore Morrison.

Ellen retired from Roses Department Store.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Al Ward, John Ward (Betty), Renae Powers (Dennis), and Lisa Williams; a son-in-law, David Wright; special grandchildren, Chrissy Fowler, Wesley Fowler (Lauren), Dustin Powers (Bella), Alex Williams (Amanda), Aaron Williams (Sophia), Michelle Paschall, J'son Pascall (Shannon), Tara Munoz, Amber Ward, Jonathan Ward, Rebecca King, Matthew Ward, and Ashley Stover; special great grandchildren, Daniel Powers, Carter, Hadleigh, Mallory, Landon, Jacob, and Jackson Fowler, Tucker Williams, Allie and Ethan Holdren, and Aiden, Bailey, and Abigail Paschall; and a special nephew and niece, Joe Powers (Jennifer) and Randy Powers (Areatha).

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Thursday, January 22, 2026 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Crump officiating.  Burial be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
