Obituary

Yale – Elizabeth "Beth" Owen Skinner Lassiter Seymour, 70, passed away June 17, 2026 in Courtland after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.  Born October 29, 1955 in Frankin, she was the daughter of the late Charles Skinner and Jean Bunn Skinner Lassiter.  Early in Beth's childhood, her mother remarried to Thomas Clamon "Dick" Lassiter, Jr. and after her mother's death, Beth and Dick continued living with Beth's aunt, Lillian Forbes.  Beth is also predeceased by her husband, John, her maternal grandparents, Charles and Lucille Bunn, and a great niece, Valerie Mullins.

Beth grew up in and around Franklin and attended Franklin High School and Tidewater Academy.  She married John Henry Seymore on May 10, 1975 and he was the love of her life and a remarkable presence in her life.  Early in their marriage they lived in Berlin where they kept a farm full of animals and built many lasting friendships in the community.  They later moved to a farm in Yale where they continued raising animals, made many friends, and where John later passed away.

Beth was a registered nurse who began her career at Zuni Presbyterian School, a facility for young adults with special needs.  She worked there for twenty years and formed many lasting friendships.  Beth later served as a nurse at Deerfield Correctional Facility and concluded her career providing private duty care in the local area.

She is survived by a niece, Angela Mullins (Ricky); a nephew, George Dodd (Stephanie); great nieces, Melanie Spears and Madison Dodd; and a great nephew, Cody Dodd.

There will be a Celebration of Life from 2 to 4PM Sunday, June 28, 2026 behind the Seventh Day Adventist Elementary School/Church (in the gym/auditorium), 19183 Courthouse Road, Yale, VA 23897.

Please consider bringing a covered dish to share as friends gather for a meal and memories.  In lieu of flowers, donations to a local animal shelter would be a meaningful way to honor Beth.
