Obituary

Franklin- Eleanor Mills "Millie" Bradshaw Hotchkiss, 72, passed away June 6, 2016 in her home following a four month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and her beloved dogs, Lucy and Rufus. Millie was born on September 15, 1943, in Franklin to the late William Mills Bradshaw, Jr., and Armorel Bradshaw Johnson. She was a graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond and received her Master's Degree from Old Dominion University.

She was a lifelong member of the Franklin Baptist Church. A dedicated educator, she taught mathematics for over thirty years in the Franklin Public School System and for several years at Southampton Academy, touching the lives of more than 4,500 young people. Millie was a Master Gardener and a loyal member of the Franklin Garden Club. She pursued her love of books and reading in the Franklin Literary Club and she was an avid bridge player. Millie had an adventurous spirit and enthusiastically grasped all that life had to offer. With her love of exploring the world and its cultures, she traveled extensively with family members and with her college friends of more than fifty years.

Millie is survived by her husband, Edward A Hotchkiss, of Franklin; a daughter, Angela Brown Ruiz, her husband Jorge Ruiz and their two sons Nicolas and William, of Tucson, AZ.; a son Lawrence Brown, Jr., his wife Kristin and their two daughters Leah and Karee of Richmond, VA.; two sisters, Brenda B Daughtrey and her husband Edwin, of Franklin, VA; and Cherry B. Brown and her husband Clement of Williamsburg, VA . In addition she is survived by stepdaughter Katharine H. Britt of Franklin and her three sons John "Jack" Britt his wife Katelyn, Edward "Ted" Britt and William "Bill" Britt; stepson Robert Bradshaw and his wife Karen of Sedley, VA; stepdaughter Kristi B Atkins and her husband Ed, of Providence Forge, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, June 10, 2016 in the Franklin Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Clingenpeel and Reverend Steve Gibson officiating.
