Obituary

Franklin – E. Carson Whitley, Jr. passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 after fighting a brave battle with liver cancer. He was born October 27, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, E. Carson Whitley, Sr., and Hortense Dundalow Whitley. He was the owner of E. C. Whitley Enterprises, a trucking and sand pit operation. Carson was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a supporter of numerous organizations. He loved to work, with many projects to his credit, and he loved to cook for his friends and family. His cooking has been enjoyed by many people on numerous occasions.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret G. Whitley. He is also survived by the two most important people in his life, his daughters, Sandra W. Hawkins and husband, Bruce, and Susan W. Keeter and husband, Keith; and his four grandsons who he always worked for and tried to teach them the important lessons in life: Brian L. Vaughan, Josh M. Hawkins, Brandon K. Keeter, and W. Chad Keeter. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Peggy G. Cornett and Florence G. Anderson and brother-in-law: Billy "Butterbean" Goodman.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 3 p. m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey officiating. Interment will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3593 Carrsville Hwy, Franklin, Va. 23851; Franklin Fire and Rescue, P. O. Box 179, Franklin, Va. 23851; or the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 27, Carrsville, Va. 23315.
