Obituary

Edward Lee Johnson, 79, owner and operator of Johnson Corn Mill and a former building contractor in the Richmond area, passed away August 13, 2007 at home with his wife and children at his side. Born in Southampton County to the late Arlie Hargrove and Arbella Page Johnson, he was an Army veteran of WW II. A former resident of Mechanicsville for 25 years, he was a past member of the American Legion and a former volunteer fireman in Mechanicsville. He was a member of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Louise Parker Johnson; a daughter, Linda J. Ashworth and husband, Mike, of Mechanicsville; two sons, William David Johnson of Long Island, NY and Daniel Lee Johnson and wife, Lois, of Mechanicsville; a sister, Louise J. Skeeter and husband, Paul, of Windsor; five grandchildren, Tony Ashworth and wife, Stephanie, Tina Davidson and husband, Allen, Timmy Ashworth, Lola McFaden and husband, Sean, and Cheryl Johnson; four stepchildren, Steve Johnson and wife, Betty, Debbie Hartert and husband, Rick, Chris Hudgins, Patty Hawkins and husband, Billy; seven great-grandchildren, Krystal Kellum, Ellen Davidson, Kayla, Korey and Hailee Ashworth, Travis and Zachary McFaden ; seven step-grandchildren, Courtney and Ashley Hartert, Meghan White, Mandy Harding, Christopher and Lindsey Hawkins and Zachary Hudgins; four step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva Margaret Johnson and a sister, Nancy Gibbs.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Mary Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. The family will receive friends from 7 -8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department or the Sedley Ruritan Club.
