Franklin - On Friday, August 31, 2018, Edward A. Clement passed away at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA, at the age of 87.  Ed was born on September 21, 1930, in New York City to the late  Andrew and Mary (Pawelko) Czuchnoski. He lived in the East Village of Manhattan until he went into the army to fight in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he married Dolores Schoeffler, also of NY, in 1954. They had three children, Christopher, Matthew and Barbara, and raised them in the beautiful town of Somers, NY. Ed and Dolores moved to Edenton, NC where they retired.  After the death of Dolores in 1996, from cancer, he married Rachel (Arrington) Clement in October of 1997.

As a boy Ed learned to swim at the Boys Club near his home and passed his love of the water onto his three children. He worked very hard his whole life to provide for his family, starting out as a messenger boy, and working his way up to be a Vice President on Wall Street at various companies including Johnson & Johnson and Johnson & Higgins. He was a member of the Lions Club in Somers and enjoyed working on the annual Lion's Club Fair, where he and Dolores always ran the Sausage and Pepper grill. Even after he retired to Edenton, he continued to work, selling cars at the local dealership. After remarrying, he and Rachel moved to Lake Monticello, VA, where he worked in the local winery's tasting room. Rachel and Ed eventually moved to Franklin, VA.

Ed was a voracious reader, and was happiest prowling through a library or reading the paper. Other interests included golfing and listening to classical music. Although he did not go to college, he ensured all of his children did. In his later years, one of his favorite things was to be mistaken for the golfer Arnold Palmer. He always politely refused any autographs, but never disabused people of their notion of who he was.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel, sons, Christopher Clement and his wife Patty, Matthew Clement and his wife Jill, daughter Barbara Shea and her husband Michael, grandchildren Tracey, Timothy, Ashley, Taylor, Michael and Lydia, great grandchildren Paige and Stella, and his dog Benji.

There will be a private family memorial at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, NY, where he will be laid to rest with his parents and sister, Anna Pawelko.  www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
