Courtland – Rev. Edmund Emery Ellis, 86, passed away August 21, 2024 in Courtland Health and Rehabilitation.  Born in Newport News, he was a son of the late George Warner Ellis and Etta Gladys Smith Ellis.  He was also predeceased by his wife, Joy Johnson Ellis and a son Andrew "Andy" Edmund Ellis.

Rev. Ellis was a 1955 graduate of Newport News High School, a graduate of Carson-Newman College, and a graduate of Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary.  He was a youth pastor in 1955 and first to be ordained at Hilton Baptist Church.  Rev. Ellis was a minister for over 50 years.  He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Drewryville.

Left to cherish his memory is a son, Lee Warner Ellis (Faye) of Galax, VA; two sisters, Becky E. Stephenson and Margaret Will; a brother, Jerry Ellis; three grandchildren Rachael Morse, Sarah Brazzale (Ryan), and Scott Ellis; two great grandchildren, Conor Brazzale and Liliana Brazzale.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM Saturday, September 7, 2024 in Thomas Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Mari Wiles officiating.  The family suggests that memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.
