Courtland – Dustin Jacob "Dusty" Whitehurst, 6, died September 15, 2007. He was born October 27, 2000 in Franklin, the son of William Hubert "Buddy" and Rebecca Duncan "Becky" Whitehurst. Dusty was a first grade student at Meherrin Elementary School, a member of Courtland Baptist Church, and a member of the Courtland Red Coach-Pitch team.
Dusty will be deeply loved and missed by his parents; paternal grandparents, Judy and Hubert Whitehurst of Virginia Beach; maternal grandmother, Dianne H. Duncan of Franklin; aunts, Tracy Taylor and husband, John, of Virginia Beach; Sherry Mayes and husband, Waymer, of Courtland; cousins, Grace, Riley, and Kelly Taylor, Katie and Taylor Joyner, and Lewis Mayes. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Gerald Duncan.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas R. Speight officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm today (Monday) at the funeral home and suggest memorials be made in memory of Dusty to a favorite charity. A memorial fund has been established in Dusty's name at Meherrin Elementary School.
