Suffolk – Doyle Gillis, Sr., 86, passed away September 10, 2022 in his home.  Born in Collinwood, TN, he was a son of the late Willie and Lessie Scott Gillis.  He was also predeceased by two sisters, Lois Dague and Dean Darby, three brothers, Lawton, Granville, and Joe Gillis, and his step-father, Fred Simpson.

Doyle was a Navy Veteran and a retired automobile mechanic.  He was a member of VFW Post #4411.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Juanita Runyon Gillis; a daughter, Glynda D. Arrington (Mike) of Suffolk; a son, Brigadier General Doyle Gillis, Jr. (Jami) of Lexington, SC; a step daughter, Christine Dotson (Kevin) of Suffolk; a sister, Margie Blankenship (Gene) of AL; eight grandchildren, Doyle Gillis III (Susan), Stephen Arrington (Savannah), Rebecca McGrath (Trey), Ashlin Dotson (David), Leia Dotson (Kenny), Addyson Dotson, and Addison and Evan Renee Winter; and eight great grandchildren, Micah, Levi, Noah McGrath, Doyle "Odin" Gillis IV, Annabelle and Bear Arrington, and Chandler and Brandon Snelgrove.

A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at 2PM Sunday, September 18, 2022 in VFW Post #4411, 3385 Beaverdam Rd., Franklin, VA 23851.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to VFW Post 4411 Auxiliary.

The family would like to thank Susan Moore and Johnny Darby because they were always there to help with Doyle.
