Dorothy Mae Harris, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born December 1, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Marian Watson and George Henry Harris Jr., of Drewryville, VA and sister of the late George H. (Bud) Harris, III, of Virginia Beach.
Miss Harris was a graduate of Mary Washington University and did graduate work at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. She and her devoted friend, the late Doris Conover, established and managed the Physical Therapy Department at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was actively involved in Habitat for Humanity and served on the board of the Walter Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Harris Yount of Drewryville; a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Harris of Virginia Beach; two nephews and their families, Hunt Harrington Harris of Rappahanock, VA and his son, Jamie, of Missoula, Montana and George H. (Hank) Harris, IV and his wife, Jrene and children Sylvie and Isabelle of Alexandria, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, Sedley, to be followed by a Fish Fry at the Firehouse. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity, P.O.
