Yorktown – Dorothy Anne Brown, 77, died January 5, 2009. She was born in Isle of Wight County, a daughter of the late Charley Benjamin Brown and Anna Maude Holland Brown Braswell. Ms. Brown was a graduate of the DePaul Hospital School of Nursing and was a retired registered nurse from Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Freeman of Yorktown and Susie Mae Sovereign of Billings, Montana; one brother, George Robert "Pete" Brown of Portsmouth; and a host of nieces and nephews. Ms. Brown was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Whiteman and Irene McClenny, and three brothers, Frank Brown, William Earl Brown, and Charlie "Bubba" Brown.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 pm Thursday at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Susan M. Reaves officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome
