Williamsburg – Doris Robinson Murfee, 98, passed away May 8, 2018. Born April 23, 1920 in Greensville County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Violas Green and Elizabeth Twisdale Robinson and married to Donald Gilbert Murfee from 1941 until his death in 2003. Doris spent her life in Drewryville, VA until 2014, when she moved to assisted living in Williamsburg to be close to her son and his wife.

Left to treasure her memory are her son, Donald G. Murfee, Jr. (Susan) of Williamsburg and daughter, Sarah M. Round (William) of Newport, VT; three grandchildren, Wesla M. Bloom (Ryan) of Charlotte, NC, Jonathan A. Murfee (Allison) of Winston-Salem, NC and Laurel R. Billingsley (Tyler) of Hinesburg, VT; seven great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Catherine Claire Bloom, Jac, Caroline, Hunt and Sam Murfee, and Benjamin Billingsley; and two sisters, Elizabeth R. Davis of Emporia and Geraldine R. Stark of Richmond. Doris was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.

Doris was a living example of kindness and compassion to others. She will especially be remembered by her younger siblings as a mother figure after the early death of their mother. Better known as the quintessential homemaker by her immediate family, she demonstrated what makes a wife and mother through her steadfast devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her boundless capacity for serving others will always be cherished.

Doris's life revolved around her church and community; she fulfilled many roles as an active member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, working with the children's ministries and serving as church treasurer for many years. Doris also acted as President of the Drewryville Woman's Club and was known as an avid bridge player.

In recent years Doris demonstrated great courage and inner fortitude when her physical health declined. She persevered through hardship with grace and dignity, always maintaining gratitude and appreciation for those around her. Doris was known by all for her bright smile and engaging warmth.   Endearing, devoted and generous to everyone who knew her, she will be missed.

The funeral will be conducted at 2pm, Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Drewryville with the Rev. Jonathan Murfee and Rev. Edmund Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Drewryville Cemetery, Drewryville, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at a reception following the funeral in the church Fellowship Hall.
