Franklin – Donald Russell Bridgers, 82, passed away August 19, 2024 in Courtland Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, he was the son of the late Russell Judson Bridgers and Vera Lee Collier Bridgers.  He was also predeceased by his son, Jonathan David Bridgers.

Donald was a graduate of Franklin High School and a former Virginia National Guardsman.  He worked for the US Postal Service for 44 years and was a longtime local photographer.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Dollie Sopko Bridgers; his daughter, Jennifer B. Whitley and her husband Jason; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Senetha Sopko; and a niece Hannah K. Sopko.

A Funeral Service will be at 2PM Friday, August 23, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Gibson officiating.  Burial will follow in Greensville Memorial Cemetery in Emporia.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity.
