Denise traveled all over the world presenting professional and scientific symposiums and instructive workshops.  She authored various articles relative to bat husbandry and captive care.  She appeared in 2003 on the David Letterman Show with "Bat World Sanctuary".  Denise was considered an authority in her field.

She was a member of the Hampton Roads Kennel Club and loved showing and training dogs and teaching people how to show their dogs.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Daniel Patrick McGuire; her mother Wanda Woodard Adkin, her father Benjamin Charles Wilsey, Jr., her brother Benny Wilsey, and a niece, Mara, all of Michigan; her father-in-law, Joseph McGuire; and a sister-in-law, Melissa Vaughan (Keith) and their daughter Kelly.

A celebration of Denise's life will be held the first weekend in October at the Hampton Roads Kennel Club Dog Show.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Batworld.org or Southern States Rescued Rottweilers.
