Obituary

Boykins - David C (Tommy) Barnes, 95, passed away May 10, in Virginia Beach Rehab and Healthcare Center. Tommy was born in Northampton County, NC on July 6, 1928, to the late Willie T and Holly Bridgers Barnes.

Tommy was schooled in Severn, NC. Afterwards he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with the Tropic Lightning Division in Japan. After being discharged he began his career as a grocer in Boykins VA. He remained a grocer until his retirement. After retirement Tommy enjoyed building crafts.

He is survived by his son, Wayne T Barnes (Ann) of Virginia Beach, three grandchildren Kayce Barnes, Kara Diehl and Micah Seltzer, all of Virginia Beach, and three great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family.

He is predeceased by his wife of fifty eight years, Betty Babb Barnes, his father Willie T Barnes, mother Holly Bridgers Barnes, brother W.R. Barnes, sister Blannie Barnes Outland, and sister Ola Barnes Garris.

He was a longtime member of Boykins Baptist Church and attended faithfully. Tommy was a member of the American Legion. Earlier on he was a member of Boykins Volunteer Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Clarksbury Card Ministry, PO Box 172, Boykins, VA 23827 or Boykins Volunteer Fire Department.

The family would like to thank everyone who supported Tommy with cards and phone calls. These were especially meaningful to him. A special thanks to Clarksbury Card Ministry.

A Graveside Service will be held in Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins with Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. Services will be private.
