Courtland, VA – George Daniel Forbes, Jr., Esq., 73, passed away August 1, 2019. Born in Suffolk, VA, he was the only child of the late George Daniel Forbes and Grace Saunders Forbes. In his youth he travelled extensively as his father was in the Air Force. The family settled in Franklin where he graduated from Franklin High School in 1964. He later earned an undergraduate degree in Business from East Carolina University and was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. After graduation he served in the Air National Guard and taught at John Yeates High School, where he was the undefeated head coach of the JV football team. In 1975, he graduated from Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. He then became a practicing attorney under the leadership of Bill Rhodes, whom he appreciated and respected. He went on to open his own private practice, serving the community for over 40 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-one years Pattie Camp Forbes; the family of his oldest daughter, Carrie Forbes Bigler, her husband Steve, daughters Cameron and Georgia, sons Whitfield and Riggs; and the family of his daughter Winston Forbes Henderson, her husband Patrick, and sons Mason and Forbes.
He loved the beach, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the, Virginia Bar Association, National Rifle Association, Outer Banks Gun Club and the Beach Buggy Association.
Mostly he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed coaching all of his life. He gave a thousand percent to everyone he loved and cared about especially his daughters who he coached to become four time National and Junior Olympic Champions in karate as well as state tennis champions with Winston becoming a collegiate tennis player at Virginia Tech.
Come celebrate Dan's life with us Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 5PM in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin. The Rev. Tommy Speight will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
