Cynthia Leigh Sanford

Franklin - Cynthia Leigh “Cindy” Sanford went to be with the Lord on September 27, 2026. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Cindy touched the lives of those around her with her kindness and gentle, giving spirit. Her greatest joy was the love she shared with her family.

Born to Phyllis and Lyle Cash, Cindy grew up with strong family bonds that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She shared a life of devotion and companionship with her husband, Thomas Sanford, who stood by her side in all things. She found peace in life’s simple pleasures, especially her cherished walks along the beaches of the Outer Banks.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Thomas Sanford; her son, Clifford Carr; her daughter, Tiffany Carr; and her treasured grandchildren, Ryland, Effie, and Olivia. She also leaves behind her father, Lyle Cash, and his wife, Faye; her brother, Lyle Cash Jr.; her sister, Donna Hollowell, and her husband, Barry; and her brother-in-law, Tim Twiddy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Cash, and her sister, Loretta Twiddy.

Cindy was a beloved aunt to Anthony Twifford and his wife, Dorothy; Jason Twifford; Amber Belcher and her husband, Eddie; Bryan Cash; and Lisa Bradshaw. She was also a proud great-aunt to Brianna and Bryce Porter, and great-niece Jordyn Paulsen.

Like her sister Loretta, Cindy had a special connection with the animals. Deer, squirrels, feral cats, and birds found their way into her yard daily as though they knew a kind soul lived there. She welcomed and cared for them with the same warmth, patience, and compassion she offered the people in her life.

Cindy will be remembered for her loving heart, her quiet kindness, and the comfort she brought to those around her. Her memory will live on in the family she cherished and in the many lives she touched.
