Newsoms – Curtis Bland Cook, 66, passed away February 4, 2013 at his home after a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and the son of the late Robert Bynum and Ellen Davis Cook. He was retired from Cook and Son Trucking Company and a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church. Curtis was a member of Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department, a former Chief from 1973 to 1985 and was voted Fireman of the Year in 1983. He was a 23 year member of AA.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sandra Darden Cook; his son, Curtis B. Cook, II and wife Amy; two sisters, Sylvia C. Newsoms and Linda C. Porter and husband Donnie; one brother, Billy Cook and wife Patricia; two grandsons, Trevor Bland Cook and Kyle Davis Cook all of Newsoms; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with the Rev. Darwin Edwards, Rev. Kenneth Williams, and Rev. Jason Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home, and suggests memorials be made to Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department or Boykins Rescue Squad.
