Carolina Beach, NC – Cole Thomas Ivey, 17, passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2026 in his home.  Born in Atlanta and raised on Carolina Beach, he was the devoted son of Courtney Ivey.  He was the adored grandson of the late Ralph and Jean Ivey of Newsoms.

Cole was a high school student who loved working with his hands, loved animals (especially horses and dogs) and craved wide open spaces and tall mountains. Cole loved the Lord, his family and friends, and had dreams of ranching and wrangling in his future.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Joanna Courtney Ivey; his close, loving aunt and uncle, Teresa and David VanDamme; his aunt and uncle Joyce and Daniel Rutland; and a very special and influential great-uncle Kenneth Gray, as well as several cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 4PM Sunday, May 24 at Hollywood Cemetery in Newsoms, Virginia with Rev. Kristen Reaves officiating.   A Celebration of Life reception will be held at 5PM Sunday, May 24 at Barnes Church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cole Ivey Memorial Foundation. The foundation is being established to fund an annual scholarship for a camper at Elk Creek Ranch, Cody, Wyoming, and other relief for teens in crisis.
