Franklin – Clyde Leonard Newton, 92, passed away October 27, 2025 in his home with his family by his side.  Born and raised in Chase City, he was a son of the late Leslie Earlie Newton and Iva Leone Roberts Newton.  He was also predeceased by a sister, Doris N. Biedenbender and a brother, Leslie Earlie Newton, Jr.  Clyde and Betty were former residents of Suffolk for 56 years.

Clyde was a graduate of Chase City High School.  He was a former manager for the Colonial Stores in Suffolk and the owner of Newton's TV Sales/Services.  Clyde was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 72 years, Betty Jean Hoyle Newton; a daughter, Diane Iva Newton Johnson (Michael); a son, Michael Clark Newton (Karen); four grandchildren, Ryan Michael Johnson, Aaron Neal Johnson; Coran Lee Newton (Dana), and Clinton Seth Newton (Jennifer); and nine great grandchildren, Grace Lauren Johnson, Evelyn Rose Johnson, Waylon Ryan Johnson, Hank William Johnson, Addison Elaine Johnson, Taylor Jon Newton, Summer Belle Newton, June Kay Newton, and Ivey Jean Newton.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4PM Saturday, November 1, 2025 in High Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Hank Teague and Rev. Ricky Gaza officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.  A Graveside Service will be held in Woodland Cemetery in Chase City, VA at 2PM Saturday, November 8, 2025.
