Franklin - Clyde Stanley Burgess, 71, passed away July 31, 2011. Born in Conway, NC, he was a son of the late Currie Woodard and Lucy Britt Burgess. Clyde was a former National Guardsman and was a 40 year employee with Farm Fresh in Smithfield. He was a member of Creeksville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Peggy Smith Burgess; two sons, Clyde Stanley Burgess, Jr. (Catherine) and Gary Joe Burgess (Kelly), all of Richmond; two sisters, Janice B. Hall of Rich Square, NC and Jean B. Davis of Conway, NC; three brothers, L.B. Burgess of Conway, NC, Donnie Burgess of Hilliard, FL and Connie W. Burgess of Greeley, CO; ten grandchildren, Ryan, Zach, Whitney, Wesley Burgess and Matt Spence, Scott Lee, Elizabeth Lee, Ray, Curtis and Luke Mayhew; one great-grandchild, Jayden Lee. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank W. Burgess.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square, NC. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
