Courtland – Clifton Eugene "Gene" Fowler, 83, passed away July 27, 2018. Gene was a native of Southampton County and was a son of the late William Henry and Rebie Holland Fowler. He was also predeceased by a daughter Stacey Ashley Fowler and three brothers William H. "Bud" Fowler, Elmo M. Fowler, and Oscar F. Fowler. Gene was a member of Vincent's Grove United Methodist Church and was a retired Franklin Area Superintendent for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years Natalie Johnson Fowler; two nieces Patsy Ferguson (Peyton) and Wanda Parham; one great nephew Andy Ferguson; one great niece Ashley Murphy (Chuck); and one great great nephew Robbie Murphy.

A Memorial Service will be 2 PM Sunday, July 29, 2018 in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin with Dr. James Michael Ponder officiating. Burial will be private.
