Zuni - Clayton L. Johnson, Sr; 90, passed away on October 23, 2026 at Sentara Obici Hospital. Born in Loris, SC to the late Ernest & Ruby Johnson, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Tommy Johnson, Carl Johnson & Gene Johnson; a son, Mark (Tony) Johnson; and a granddaughter, Krystal Austin.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Peggy J. Johnson; 2 sons, Clayton Johnson, Jr and Ricky Johnson (Anne); 3 daughters, Teresa Schmidt (Jon), Janice Griffith (CP), Sherry Pilkington (Clay); 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and a sister, Judy Funicello.
Clayton was a faithful and devoted witness of Jehovah for 58 years. His hobby was crafting amazing wooden vehicles; such as a train, a riverboat, a crane, a semi towing a bulldozer, cars and more. At times, he would use his creations to enhance his easily understood illustrations when teaching the Bible to others.
He was also known for his fun-loving sense of humor, a remarkable man who touched many lives.
We would like to extend a thank you to Maleta Collins and Randy Everette for their loving care giving during his last few years.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 15673 Scotts Factory Rd, Smithfield, VA 23430. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to 'Donate.JW.ORG'.
