Richmond – Claudia Marie Sykes. 64, a resident of The Virginia Home for the past 28 years passed away May 19, 2022 in Henrico  Doctors Hospital. Claudia was born in Franklin, a daughter of the late William E. "Buddy" Sykes and Alice Marshall Sykes. She was also predeceased by a brother William M. Sykes.

She has lived at The Virginia Home in Richmond for 28 years . They gave her the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Despite having cerebral palsy and being wheel chair bound she was extremely intelligent, used a speech device to communicate, and never forgot a single birthday and always had Christmas gifts for everyone.

Claudia loved coming home for the holidays and having cherry pie, ice cream and coffee. She was a Girl Scout, loved swimming and her favorite NFL team was the Redskins.

She adored her sister, nieces, and their children. She would get excited when they came to visit. You could hear her all the way down the hallway anxiously waiting for us.

Left to cherish her memory is a sister, Annilee Wood (Harrell), four nieces,

Ann Marie Berry (Craig ) Crystal Englehart (Matthew ) all of New Kent, Va,  Rosie Wood ( Jarrett Alston) of Dumfries, Va, and Amanda Wood of Tucson, AZ, two great nieces, Summer Croswell and Alice Englehart, and two great nephews Drake Berry and Phinn Englehart, longtime companion of over 35 years Brian Clements of Suffolk, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Memorial service will be Sunday June 12, 2022 at 2 PM at The Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton St. Richmond, VA 23220. Claudia will be laid to rest in the family plot at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin.
