Courtland – Charlie Melvin Bass, Sr., 68, passed away November 21, 2017. Charlie was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a son of the late Wilbur L. Bass and Lola Blythe Bass. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Wilber L. Bass, Jr. and Donny R. Bass. He was a retired Power Plant Operator with International Paper with 37 years of service. Charlie served in the US Air Force from 1967 to 1971 .

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Peggy Dickerson Bass, two sons, Charlie Melvin "Mel" Bass, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Brooklet, GA and Samuel Quinton "Sam" Bass and his wife Alyce of Ivor and two sisters, Glenda Blythe and husband Joe of Courtland and Marilyn Crowder and her husband Tommy of Newsoms, four grandchildren, Mackenzie Leigh Bass, Kennedy Neal Bass, Cameryn Elaine Bass and Chloe Elizabeth Bass, sisters-in-law, Betty D. Edwards and husband Linwood, Jeannie D. Fuller and husband Jimmy and Linda D. Raiford and husband Walter Raiford Jr. both deceased and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11 AM Saturday November 25, 2017 at Riverside Cemetery, Courtland with Rev. Dr. Robert Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
