Courtland- Charles Henry Ward, 65, passed away September 30, 2009 at his home. A lifelong resident of Southampton County and a retired farmer, Charles was a son of the late Beecher Henry Ward, Jr. and Mildred Scott Ward. He was a member of the Sedley Hunt Club, Sons of the Confederacy and was a 1962 graduate of Southampton High School where he was an Honorable Mention Basketball All American. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and attended True Word Christian Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years, Shelby Jenkins Ward, his daughter, Tina W. Taylor and her husband, Christopher, of Courtland; two sisters, Judith W. Wells of Hopewell and Brenda W. Bradshaw of Greenville, SC; a brother, James H. Ward of Courtland; a grandson, Christopher Taylor, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, C.H. Ward, Jr.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Riverside Cemetery with Tres Bradshaw and Rev. Chuck Worth officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, the Courtland Volunteer Rescue or the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department.
