Newsoms - Charles Bryant Bunn, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2025.  He was born on October 8, 1931, in Newsoms to the late Jack Council Bunn, Sr, and Blanche Bryant Bunn.  Charles was predeceased by his devoted wife of 65 years, Nancy Epps Bunn.  Charles was also predeceased by one sister, Paige Bunn Prince, and one brother, J. C. Bunn, Jr.

He is survived by his two sons, Charles Bryant Bunn, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Mulder Bunn; and Joseph Blair Bunn and his wife, Jenny Burgess Bunn; and his beloved grandchildren, Charles B. Bunn, III, and Chloe Elizabeth Bunn all of Newsoms; one sister, Peggy Bunn Simmons, one sister-in-law, Joan Bunn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Newsoms High School.  During the Korean War, Charles served with the U. S. Army in Europe. Having graduated with honors from the Topographical Engineering School at Ft. Belvoir, Washington, DC, he was a surveyor with the U. S. Army for building and restoring roads between Germany and France – many of which had been destroyed during World War II.  The rebuilding project was for future emergency evacuations.

He farmed and raised cattle for 30+ years in Newsoms.  He was also employed for a number of years by the U. S. Department of Agriculture serving as inspector for government stored peanuts; assisted the Southampton Commissioner of Revenue taking tax lists for the Newsoms District for a number of years; and served as substitute Rural Mail Carrier at the Newsoms Post Office.  Charles and Nancy also founded Newsoms Peanut Shop in 1980.

He was a lifelong, faithful member of Newsoms United Methodist Church, served as Treasurer of the Men's Bible Class for 30+ years and had also been a member of the choir.

A most community minded citizen, he served on the Newsoms Town Council for many years followed by 15 years as Newsoms Town Clerk/Treasurer.  After retiring from farming, he continued to serve as Manager of the Hollywood Cemetery.  He was a past member of the Newsoms Ruritan Club and served as Club secretary, vice president and president. He was a member of Newsoms Hunt Club and an avid hunter and fisherman.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10AM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms with Rev. Michael Baugham officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Newsoms United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 297, Newsoms, VA 23874, Newsoms Fire Department, P. O.
