Obituary

Elizabeth Chandler Allen Hotchkiss, 52, passed away on July 2, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Chandler fought a courageous battle with cancer with style and grace. She was born on October 18, 1957 in Richmond Virginia, a daughter of the late Elizabeth Gwaltney Allen and Philemon Macon Allen, Jr. As president of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Mrs. Hotchkiss was instrumental in the installation of the first digital mammogram machine. She was a member of the Franklin Garden Club and The Emmanuel Episcopal Church. At the church she served on the Alter Guild, ECW and the Vestry.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Carter Walker Hotchkiss; daughter, Margaret Walker (Peggy) Hotchkiss of Charleston, SC; son, Allen Craigie Hotchkiss of Franklin, Va; sister, Margaret Allen Vinson and husband, Stephen of Jamestown, NC; uncle, William C. Ross of Pacolet, SC and many cousins.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth Chandler Allen Hotchkiss, will be conducted at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at The Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 400 N. High Street, Franklin, Va. 23851. The Revs. Edmund Pickup and Ben R. Duffey will officiate. A Reception will follow the service at the Pace House Inn, 800 W. 2nd Ave, Franklin Va 23851. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Emmanuel Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, or the Woodberry Forest Mother's Fund, c/o Woodberry Forest School, Woodberry Forest Va. 22989. Wright Funeral Home is assisting the family.
