Courtland - Cathie Sanders Bradshaw, 78, passed away peacefully in her home on July 29, 2026. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Robert Bailey Sanders and Ruth Street Sanders.
Cathie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life and evident by her long-standing membership to Courtland Baptist Church. Cathie’s sweet demeanor drew people to her and earned her many deep and cherished friendships. She found joy in the lives of others, quietly encouraging them without ever seeking attention. Her smile and warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Her talents as a homemaker were both extensive and exceptional, yet she remained humble and unassuming. Cathie’s greatest joy came from spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren relishing in the memories they created.
Cathie is survived by her husband Loyd Bradshaw Jr.; her daughters, Jennifer Hancock Wheeler (Jason) of Manteo, NC and LeAnne Hancock Wiggins of Kill Devil Hills, NC; grandchildren Casper Hancock Wheeler of Manteo, NC, Lauren Kristen Newman (Eric) of Moyock, NC, Landen Jeffery Wiggins, USCG, Key West, FL, and Charles Wyn Wheeler, USMMA, Kings Point, NY; great granddaughter Lucille May Newman; stepson Brad Bradshaw (Bethanne) of Suffolk, VA; step grandchildren Rachel Bradshaw of Suffolk, VA, and Matthew Bradshaw of Philadelphia, PA; and great granddaughter Willow Young.
Cathie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Eugene Hancock, twin sister Cynthia Sanders Pattillo, brother Robert Sanders, Jr. and sister Patricia Street Jordan.
A Memorial Service will be held at Courtland Baptist Chapel on August 1 at 2:00 p.m. Following the service the family will receive friends at Courtland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for all the visits, nourishment, calls and prayers which have sustained us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Courtland Baptist Church, Benevolent Fund.
