West Virginia – Carol Jane Loughry Pope, 88, went home to be with her Savior, on August 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on September 15, 1935 in Hendricks, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Van Buren Loughry and Freda Alice Helmick Loughry. She is also predeceased by her first husband, Donald F. Lowther; her second husband, Robert W. Pope; and her siblings, Benton Miller, Audery Miller Long, and Sharon, Allen and Damen Loughry.
Carol was very talented and worked many different jobs: Dorman Mills Textile in WV, Carl's Motel as a head cook, Tucker County Hospital as a kitchen supervisor, Courtland Health and Rehabilitation as a kitchen supervisor, cooked peanuts with Bobby Worrell, and volunteered at the Agriculture Center in VA. Her most important job was mother, wife and friend. She enjoyed having her family around her playing her piano and line dancing. Carol was an awesome cook and everyone enjoyed dinners at her home. She was also a lover of flowers and enjoyed her garden.
She was a member of Sunbeam Baptist Church and cherished Pastor Hoyle Green, his wife, and her church family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Christina M. Worrell (Harold Dean), Donald F. Lowther, Jr. (Paula), and Donna Lowther Bolinger; two step children, Bobby Pope (Winnie) and Cheryl Pope; a sister, Elenor Loughry Akins; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Matthew, Joshua, Heather, Kasie, Jedediah, John, Sammy, and Steven who loved her to the moon and back; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1PM Thursday, August 29, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Hoyle Green officiating. The burial will follow at Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11AM to 1PM prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sunbeam Baptist Church, 31226 Sunbeam Rd., Franklin VA 23851.
