Gates, NC – Carlos Alonzo "Butter" Blankenship, 80, passed away May 8, 2021 in Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation Center.  A native of West Virginia, he was the son of the late Carlyle W. Blankenship and Margarette S. Blankenship and was also predeceased by his daughters, Lisa Kay Parker and Carla Marie Whaley.

Carl was a member of the American Legion Post #1976 in Annandale, VA.  He was a hardworking man and an avid hunter and fisherman in his days.  He always wanted to be back on the river in Luray.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Judy Blankenship Combow; son-in-law, James Crawford; grandchildren, Jeff Capps, Tosha Rowland (Daniel), Kenny Lorah (Kari), Leona Santamaria (Freddy), Michelle Zanzig (John), and Dusty Parker (Meagan); and 16 great grandchildren.

An informal Memorial Service will be held on July 4, 2021 in Luray, VA on the Shenandoah River where he loved being.
