Franklin – Carl Henry "Chunk" Mumford, 78, died July 19, 2009 at Bloom Retirement Center in Emporia. He was born in Southampton County, a son of the late David Mitchell and Sallie Munford Mumford, and was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and George Mumford. An Army veteran, Carl was a retired carpenter and a member of Burdette Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Susie M. Copeland of Windsor and Edna M. Whitley of Chesapeake; two brothers, Alfred S. Mumford of Franklin and David M. Mumford of Nashville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 am at Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley with the Rev. Larry Cribb officiating.
