Franklin – Bonnie Lee Baker Swain, 60, passed away on March 30, 2012 at her residence. Born in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Oscar James Baker, II and Jeanne Hathaway Baker and also loved sister to the late Oscar James Baker, III. Bonnie graduated a year early from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1969 as a member of the National Honor Society and attended, on full scholarship, ODU until 1973 studying pre-med. She worked in Civil Service for 10 years leaving in 1982. Bonnie returned to work as a medical transcriptionist for EVMS and then for Obici Hospital where she retired in 2003. Bonnie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was an avid reader and writer with several articles published in magazines and newspaper.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 30 years, Timothy "The Bookman" Swain, sons, Jason Swain and Christopher Swain, sisters, Carolyn Dargert (Mark Short) and Suzanne Bird (Colin), brother, Terry Baker, two nieces and one nephew.
A funeral service will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 309 Homestead Road, Franklin, VA 23851. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin is serving the family. Burial will be 11AM Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth.
