Virginia Beach – On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the earthly world lost an enthusiastic environmentalist, dedicated wife and mother, eager volunteer, and accomplished professional.  Betty Jane Carr Bradshaw, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in her home she built with her husband.

The daughter of the late James F. and Shelly G. Carr, Betty was raised in Walters, VA and graduated Carrsville High School in 1954.  She went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Longwood College, have a successful career in banking, and was recognized as "Outstanding Professional Woman of the Year" by the Business Community of Hampton Roads in 1995.

Betty will be remembered for her sincerity, kindness, and positive outlook.  An avid outdoorswoman, she enjoyed spending time volunteering, birdwatching, and caring for animals both wild and domesticated.  Puzzling, gardening, and collecting recipes and cookbooks filled much of her time in her later years.  She was a member of King's Grant Presbyterian Church.

Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years Jimmy, her daughter Leesia Taylor (Ed), and grandson James Taylor (Michelle).  She is also blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at Rivers United Church in Walters on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 1PM with Pastor John Hunter officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.  A reception will follow in the church.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, the Wildlife Center of Virginia, or the National Audubon Society.

Betty's family expresses their deepest gratitude and sincerest appreciation for the love and prayers received.  Special thanks to the staff at Virginia Oncology who cared for her; their kindness and support will forever be remembered.
