Franklin – Bessie Bailey Johnson, 90, widow of James Clee "J.C." Johnson, Jr., passed away May, 22, 2021 in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Handsom, Va, and was a daughter of the late Tilman Vann Bailey and Rosa Francis Bailey. She was also predeceased by three sisters and three brothers,  Alese B. Tucker, Vivian B. Kaikis, Dot B. Gelhaus, Aubrey Bailey, T.V. Bailey, Jr., and Kenny Bailey. She was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and a graduate of Newsoms High School.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Terry J. Bell and husband Stan, of Franklin, and Betty J. Pendley and husband Nate, of Clemmons, NC, a brother, William C. Bailey and wife Virginia Ann, of Franklin, five grandchildren, Chris Bell, Betsy Bell, Elizabeth Pendley Kuilema and husband Martijn, Nicholas Pendley, Katie Pendley Buey and husband Chad, Caroline Pendley and Lexie Pendley, two great grandchildren, Aiden Kuilema and Laken Buey, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside funeral will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Southampton Memorial Park, with the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Cooperative Ministry, 301 W 1st Ave, Franklin, VA 23851
