Franklin- Berta Johnson Smith, 88, passed away October 15, 2016 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Isle of Wight County, a daughter of the late Claude Royal Johnson and Carrie Maude Bland Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband, Rubert Dean Smith, a daughter, Ester Smith Babb, a sister, Nellie Johnson, a brother, James Henry Johnson.

Berta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Left to cherish her memory is one son, Ronnie Smith (Trudy), a sister, Edna Story, one brother, Robert Earl Johnson, four grandchildren, Michael Smith, Elliot Smith, Tracy Mattox and T.J. Babb, dear friends Robin, Kenny, Emma and Marlin McClelland, Janice Madron and Joyce White.

Funeral will be conducted at 2PM Monday, October 17, 2016 at Wright Funeral Home by Chaplain Tim Cormany officiating. The burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 7:30 PM at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 309 Homestead Rd., Franklin, VA 23851. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
