Newsoms – Bernice Francis Vick, 88, widow of Currie Lee Vick, died October 11, 2007. Born in Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Benjamin and Dora Bryant Francis. Mrs. Vick, fondly known as "Grandma Vick" in the Newsoms community, was retired as supervisor of the Newsoms Elementary School lunchroom after 31 years of service. She was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church, the WMU Missionary Circle, and the Golden Age Club.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Wayne C. Vick and wife, Gloria, of Newsoms; two grandchildren, Sherry Pope and husband, David Earl, Denise Riddick and husband, Tom; four great-grandchildren, David Earl Pope, Jr., Daniel Thomas Riddick, John Currie Riddick and Joshua Wayne Riddick. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ethel Vick and brothers and sisters, Clyde, Lona, Joseph and Queenie.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Newsoms Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Williams and Rev. Thomas Caulkins officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and other times at the home of Wayne and Gloria Vick, and suggests memorials be made to Newsoms Baptist Church, P. O. Box 312, Newsoms, Va. 23874.
