Courtland – Bernice Vick Edwards, 84, widow of Bennett Lee "BL" Edwards, Jr., passed away September 6, 2021 in her daughter's home with her family by her side.   Born in Boykins on February 4, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Luther and Eunice Banty Vick.  She is also predeceased by the man who raised her, James Monicure Story, and a sister, Betty Vick Dinsmore.

Bernice was a beautician and owner of Bernice's Beauty Shop in Courtland for 20 years.  She also worked for the Southampton County School System for 20 years as a teacher's aide.  Bernice was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member of the choir.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Vickie E. Phipps (Dale), Brenda E. Flowers (William "Tal" Murphy), and Dale E. Holt (Ricky); a son, James Kenneth "Kenny" Edwards (Marsha); eleven grandchildren, Kevin Story (Heather), Tina Clark (Jeff), Taylor Flowers (Sara), Kelly Holeman (James), Elyse Edwards (Chris), Bennett Flowers (Kelsey), Ashley Dover (Deven), Zach Edwards, Carrie Holt (Brendan), Mitch Phipps, and Brandon Phipps; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Thursday, September 9, 2021 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. David Henson officiating.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service and suggests that memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church.
