Newsoms – Barbara Edwards Story, 80, passed away November 15, 2025 in Courtland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.  Born and raised in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Carl Franklin Edwards, Sr. and Flossie Bryant Edwards.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Benjamin Story, Sr., a daughter, Barbara Jo Story Jones, a sister, Phyllis Edwards Beville, and two brothers, Carl F. "Buck" Edwards and Sidney R. "Speck" Edwards.

Barbara was a 1964 graduate of Southampton High School and was a secretary for Bristow Insurance Company and a former bus driver for Southampton County Public Schools.  She was a member of Barnes Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Lawrence B. Story, Jr. (Meagan Ewing), a sister, Shelvia E. Harrell, and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2PM Friday, November 21, 2025 in Hollywood Cemetery with Pastor Drew Dunn officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Thursday in the funeral home and suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
