Annie Laura Fowler Sykes, 96, widow of John David Sykes passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Dinwiddie Health and Rehab Center. Mrs. Sykes was a native of Newsoms, VA, the only daughter of the late George Ryland and Ruby Bunn Fowler, and Valedictorian of her Newsoms High School class. She was a member of Boykins United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir for over 50 years. She was a homemaker well known for her baking and needle working. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. John D. Sykes, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Lawrenceville; one granddaughter, Sandra Sykes Wilson and husband John of Chesapeake; two great grandchildren, Trey and Laura Wilson, special friends and care givers Joyce Bellamy and Nancy Jones, and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Boykins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. The burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Allen Story, 22461 Linden St., Courtland, VA, on Tuesday, and suggest that memorial donations be made to Boykins United Methodist Church, 32167 S.
