Obituary

Franklin – Annie Laurie Parker Cocker, 89, passed away quietly June 3, 2009 after living with Alzheimer's Disease for twenty years. She is survived by three children and spouses: Laurie Timberlake (Dr. John) of Medina, OH, Lou Flowers (Jerry) of Virginia Beach, VA, Bill (Tammy) Cocker of Fairfax Station, VA. She also leaves nine grandchildren: Matthew Timberlake (Dr. Sara) of Sacramento, CA, Dr. Kathryn Timberlake (Dr. Stephan Cote) of Toronto, Paul Timberlake (Nina Wilson fiancé), Madeline Pittenger (Jimmy), Wesley Flowers (Elizabeth Spain, fiancé), Max Flowers and Mary Flowers all of Virginia Beach, Allyson and Peyton Cocker of Fairfax Station, VA. Mrs. Cocker was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roland M. Cocker, after fifty-three years of marriage in 1996.
Mrs. Cocker was born in Ghent, Kentucky on November 24, 1919 while her father, Dr. Lloyd A. Parker and mother, Nellie Mahaffy Parker, resided there for studies at the Louisville Baptist Seminary. She grew up in the parsonage of Berryville Baptist Church, VA. She entered Westhampton College in Richmond at the age of sixteen, and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC.
A leader in church, public school and civic organizations, Mrs. Cocker was also a teacher at Episcopal Lower School in McLean, VA for a number of years. She will be remembered as a devout Christian, wife and mother. A small family funeral was held on June 5, 2009. She was buried beside her husband and parents in the cemetery of Potecasi Baptist Church, NC. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
