Courtland – Annabelle Gwaltney Whitehead, 82, widow of William Leland "Bill" Whitehead, Jr., passed away October 27, 2020 in her home.  Born on July 25, 1938 in Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late William Dudley Gwaltney, Jr. and Eunice Bell Stephenson Gwaltney and was also predeceased by her brother, William Stephenson "Steve" Gwaltney.

Annabelle was a graduate of Smithfield High School and attended Longwood College.  She was a librarian at Walter Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland and a member of Courtland United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Linda W. Pittman and her husband, Wilmer; her son, Leonard G. Whitehead and his wife Leslie; five grandchildren, Dudley, Ryan (Amanda), and Peyton Pittman and Kelsey and Kristen Whitehead; and one great grandchild, Thomas James Pittman.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2PM Saturday, October 31, 2020 in Riverside Cemetery in Courtland with the Rev. Bill McClung, Jr. officiating.  The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church.
